Thanks again Rachel!

There are many things to appreciate about Mastic-Shirley, however all of the good that happens here is confined to the town and what outsiders see in the media or hear by word of mouth are only the negative things that happen here. I have used the statues placed around town by the William Floyd Beautification Committee as the subjects for my yarn bomb as my senior project at SUNY Purchase. I wanted to change the view of the town by way of the people who live here. Knitting holds a lot of power for me, mostly because I am usually knitting for other people and it gives me a way to provide for those people even when I am not there. I wanted to extend this out to the people in my hometown. I have asked anyone who took a hat to return the favor by paying it forward by doing something positive for someone else no matter how small the gesture was. This project has allowed me to marry together the very utilitarian uses of knitting and traditional yarn bombs which are more akin to graffiti in that they cannot be used beyond the space with which they are placed.
