As y'all who read know! I'm a true believer of pay it forward! I bring you this story for those of you that don't know Keith Caputo! He truly puts pay it forward into action! He is out there doing his thing even in the coldest of weather! His latest adventure..Scarf Bombing the local pantries! Those in need may be cold as well as hungry! Keith Caputo LOVES helping people.  Many in our community call him the unofficial "Mayor of Center Moriches"- that makes him proud.  But it's helping that makes him happy.  So much so that he's in the process of establishing his own non-profit called "Helping Makes U Happy" (www.helpingmakesuhappy.org).

Perhaps 10 yrs ago Keith was fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of Anthony Parlato, or "Coach Anthony" as he was known to many.  Anthony and Keith did so much together -everyone knew them as Coach Ant and Coach Keith.  They coached kids together in basketball, did fundraising activities, and it was Anthony who really motivated Keith to "Help Someone Today" (which was Anthony's motto).   Sadly, Coach Anthony passed away suddenly and unexpectedly a couple years ago but he was, and still is, the biggest inspiration in Keith's life.  "Keith's Mom" as I'm known, is incidental- the PR lady, the assistant, the secretary, the taxi, and Keith's biggest fan.  

When Anthony passed, Keith was so devastated.  It became apparent after several months that the only thing that lifted him up was getting out in the community, meeting people, and helping as much as he could.  Whether it's a smile he gives you, a hug, a kind word, a helping hand, or something more, Keith aims to make your life brighter.  So with much encouragement from the community we  began forming Helping Makes U Happy. He loves to be busy- we no sooner finish one event then he's ready to move on to the next.  Plans for Helping Makes U Happy are to establish a scholarship for a graduating senior who has shown commitment to community service, to send kids to local sports& theater camps where finances might preclude them from attending, and to organize events where children can participate and learn how helping makes u happy. He would still love to see a new community center for our area- a dream of Coach Anthony's. Keith was recently honored by the NY Knicks with their Sweetwater Clifton award for community service and his dream is to meet and dance with Ellen DeGeneres.  Keith loves Ellen because she also inspires him with her giving nature and her trademark sign-off "Be kind to one another".
